OK International Metcal leadfree

In chance from the leaded to the lead free technology, all solder processes are changed. Not only by reflow or wave soldering, as well by hand soldering application. Everything, what was in the quality point of interested are ok, must be changed complete.

OKI / METCAL changed from the year 2005 alle tips over to lead free. While the changing procedure the new tips will be marked with the letter LF.

solder time :
The soldering time based onto the mass volume much longer. In this case you have to look carefully to the datasheet of the solderwire manufacture. To long soldering time has a direct effect to the lifetime of the flux and as well to the quality of the solder join.

solder temperature :
DThe melting point of leaded solder is by 183°C. The soldering temperature area starts from 205° up to 235°C.
By leadfree wire, the melting point is, based onto the standard solder legation, by 217°C. The solder temperature area starts by 235°C and end by 250°, max by 260°C.

preocess solution
If you can`t fullfill the soldering count, there are two solutions:

1. higher tip temperature
The gradient of the heating process will be higher
negative: More tip consum
based onto more oxidation.
And more product stress
positiv: the soldering time is shorter.

2. tip design optimisation
Better thermal transfer to the solder join.
negativ: Other solder process.
positiv:not so mutch more tip consum and not
so mutch more stress.
